Warsaw - Amber Room

Ok, I’ll be straight with ya’ll. I tried to find Amber Room’s menu from last May but they’ve since uploaded a new menu. I can’t remember EVERYTHING we ate but I remember some of them… Most importantly, I remember savouring the food so that’s a good sign 😂 (I mean, they can’t be ranked #1 on Tripadvisor for nothing, right?)

After our epic food adventure in Barcelona ended, N and I visited his best friend, “H”, in Warsaw! I was so stoked to visit N’s other motherland (his mother’s motherland, to be exact). I was even more stoked to try the food. Communist-Era “bar mleczny” a.k.a. “Milk Bars”? Check. Pierogi? Check. Pączki? Check. Flaki? Double check. Swiderki lody? CHECK! 😀 N and H go way back so he was determined to bring him out for a grand meal and a grand time. After a bit of research on the internet, he decided on…you guessed it, Amber Room.

The funny story is…we showed up a day earlier than our reservation!!! LOL! Luckily they were nice enough to accommodate us and we ended up dining in the basement, which boasts an open air patio.

I guess they realized we were there to share because when the servers brought our food, the chefs had plated three equal portions of all three of our main dishes together so that we could eat without fussing and passing plates around. Genius! Thanks chefs! Even better, we received three gravy boats of different sauces; they possessed depth and great flavour. Truly elevated each entree.

Highlights: the beetroot risotto, best risotto I’ve ever had in my LIFE no joke; the duck pierogi; the lightly seared tuna with vanilla foam, and the chocolate sphere with popcorn. Bravo!

Łazienki Park Warsaw

Give yourself a good chunk of time to walk through the park; there are so many beautiful flowers and foliage to admire; statues, buildings, and…even a peacock! (Tip: eat a hearty lunch before your walk to keep you going!)

My favourite piece in the park: the Faun.

I’m not sure what this is supposed to depict. Can anyone clue me in? 🙂

There were quite a few peacocks in the park. I was so worried I would scare it away if I came too close! But just look at him, he’s just posing there so regally, doing his own thang. LOL.

Overall, a really awesome experience!

Wedel Cafe Intercontinental Warsaw

E.Wedel was founded in 1851 by Polish Chocolatier Karol Wedel; they are famous for their high-quality chocolates, cakes and snacks…mmm… Fun fact: in 2010, the company was sold to Lotte, the South Korean-Japanese conglomerate we all know and love! N said I couldn’t leave Poland without trying at least one thing from Wedel Cafe, not that I’m complaining. Chocolate? YES PLEASE! Luckily there was a cafe located in the lobby of our hotel. Scoooooore!

N’s Pick: hot chocolate with lotsa whip!

Wedel Cafe Intercontinental Warsaw

My Pick: Thick chocolate drink with raspberry and cream. I loved the quality of the chocolate, but my bad! I’m not a HUGE fan of tart raspberries in a drink I guess. Oops.

Be sure to take home a few confectionaries! There’s always room for chocolate.

Warsaw - Eat KFC

I’ve never been the biggest fan of KFC. In fact, Vancourites rep Church’s (Texas) Chicken. Mmmm…spicy thighs… Anyway, so when N waxed poetics about Poland’s “free-range chicken” KFC you can imagine my skepticism. Lo and behold, he was telling the truth. KFC in Poland…IS FREAKING AWESOME! Especially their famous chicken strips. Get. The. Chicken Strips! 😎
