Beef Jabchae: stir-fried glass noodles with beef and vegetables | $15.95 | 8/10

MDG and I have a relationship that spans a decade. We’ve been through a lot together. A lot of cravings together, that is. 😅

I usually order the Beef Jabchae and Yangnyum Chicken, though I like to order their Galbitang (beef short ribs, radish, green onions, glass noodle and egg in rich beef broth $12.95) from time to time.

Expect to wait in line if you go during dinner. Prices have increased year after year, but if you’re treating yourself than you might as well give MDG a go. 😘

Yangnyum Chicken: deep-fried chicken marinated in sweet Korean chili sauce | $19.95 | 7.8/10

Giovane Cafe + Market + Eatery is located on the ground floor of Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Coal Harbour. I never expected to fall in love with their cake bars; my initial plan was to buy a box of their sugar buns and hit the road (so I could stuff my face in private at home LOL). Lo and behold…these were right in my face when I joined the queue! And the rest is…sweet, sweet history.

Vanilla Cream Sugar Bun vs. Matcha Cream Sugar Bun? Get both. (Easy.)

As for the cake bars…at $8/bar, they are WORTH IT. #YOLO, remember.

Raspberry Krunch: dolce white chocolate mousse, raspberry gelée, hazelnut krunch, almond cake.

Coconut Pineappple: coconut mousse, pineapple rhum compote, mango gelée, carrot spice cake, mango cremeux, vanilla cookie, lime cream.

In fact, just get all four flavours!

I can’t wait to visit again for brunch some time soon.

Kingyo Izakaya Vancouver

Stone-Grilled Kobe Beef (marinated beef with 2 kinds of kingyo original sauce) | $24 | 8/10

The 4.8 rating on Zomato doesn’t lie! Kingyo is my FAVOURITE Izakaya/Japanese “tapas” bar in all of Vancouver. The quality of the food is consistent, service is always outstanding if a little chaotic at times, and the ambience/decor of the restaurant always makes me giddy when I walk through the door. Three check marks in all three categories, truly a marvel 😌.

I’m not going to lie, I always show up a bit earlier than my normal eating hours. But if you don’t, chances are you’ll be waiting a good chunk of time for an open table…this place gets super packed during lunch AND dinner.

What do I recommend? Why, I thought you’d never ask…¬†The Deluxe Bento Set (get there early for lunch or there won’t be any left though!),¬†Chicken Nanban Bowl (done well, true to the chicken nanban I used to eat in college back in Japan, but with a twist using Yuzu-Kosho…my, oh my),¬†Uni Miso Udon (BEST THING EVER), and¬†Stone-Grilled Kobe Beef (the experience alone is so fun!) 😋

Just a forewarning: avoid the fried corn appetizer…it was soaked in oil, slightly stale and simply not tasty compared to the other dishes…but don’t let that deter you! Everything else is phenomenal. #foodieheaven

Our Thoughts

Food: 8/10
Service: 6/10
Ambience|Decor|Environment: 9/10
Total: 7.7/10

We totally BOOB’ed (brought our own drinks) ’cause I ain’t about the soft drink life.

What more can I say that the photos don’t already? Steveston Village is a must-place to visit in the summer months, even if it’s sweltering hot and you have to fight a throng of human beings to get from point A to point B; even if you hate the smell of the sea; even if you have to queue¬†20 minutes for your meal under the harsh rays of the sun and then send a prayer to God for available seating.

The fish is fresh as f***. So yeah, check it out.

That’s all I gotta say.
